Portsmouth Force hosted Brighton Cougars at Admiral Lord Nelson. To mark Remembrance Sunday, the teams and supporters observed two minutes silence to pay respects to those who served and sacrificed to defend our nation.
Despite their optimism and enthusiasm, the boys looked apprehensive ahead of the game. The first quarter started slow with both teams working hard to score those first few all important points. After some hard work and the first basket scored by Brighton, Portsmouth seemed to find their feet with Jon scoring the first points for the team. A few free throws secured some extra points followed by Jon, Cam and Jordan upping the baskets to finish the first quarter on 14-12.
The second quarter saw some good defensive play by both teams and a steady number of baskets from both sides ending the first half on an equal 26:26, both teams eagerly chasing that win.
The boys came back stronger in the third quarter with Mo, Jon, Josh, Jordan and Cam all adding baskets and a 2/2 free throw by Adrian. This put the pressure on the Cougars and secured an 11 point lead giving the Force momentum, finishing quarter three on a respectable score of 48-37.
The fourth quarter saw Jon and Jordan sadly fouled out due to a few mistakes powered by passion and the intensity of the game, but not before adding further points to the board and extending the lead. Portsmouth really upped their game as the team came to life in the second half, with some clean precise passes and good defensive play with one particularly notable great steal by Milan. The last quarter also saw Toby Daraz our phenomenal shooter score an epic 3 points lifting our home supporters to their feet, shortly followed by another basket to seal the deal.
The game ended 71-51 win for the Portsmouth Force boys.
