Force travelled to Division 1 Thames Valley Cavaliers on Sunday for the fourth round of the National Cup. While the overall performance was commendable—scoring 95 points against a well-established Division 1 team—there is a lingering sense of disappointment. A few key decisions and actions going the other way might have seen Force progress to the next round.
This sense of disappointment, however, is a testament to the progress and belief within the squad this season. The team didn’t show up to make up the numbers. They came to compete, to win, and to turn heads toward Portsmouth, showcasing what has already been built.
In the game, Thames Valley Cavaliers (TVC) took an early lead, but Force held firm. Despite being metaphorically “punched in the face,” the team fought back with determination. Both teams showcased aggressive offence, scoring a combined 28 three-pointers. Force also capitalised on fouls during three-point attempts, earning crucial trips to the foul line.
Force’s offensive threats shone throughout the game, with standout performances from Victor Babalola, Kevin Lomboto, and Simon Olanoplekun, who consistently attacked the basket with strong drives. A special mention goes to Morgan Brown, whose hard work, though not reflected on the stat sheet, provided critical support that allowed his teammates to excel.
Another highlight of the day was the presence of U18 player Max Mo, who stepped up to the First Team for the first time. While he didn’t make it onto the court, the experience was invaluable. Max reflected, “The guys welcomed me into the team today, and even though I didn’t get on the court, I know that if I keep working hard, I’ll be representing Force at the Senior level soon. Today has shown me what I need to do to progress.”
Although the National Cup journey ends here, Force's performance and spirit signal a bright future for the team.
